Artist and Painting
b. 1923. In the early days of the Centre d’Art, co-director Selden Rodman invited William Calfee to instruct the primitive painters in the tempera technique for frescos. The Episcopal Bishop Voegeli, over the objection of higher-ups and the local elite, asked Obin, Benoit, Bigaud, Bazile and Leveque to decorate the church. It was a masterstroke and all five artists have gone on to greater fame. Leveque’s angels are above the main altar in the Episcopal Cathedral.
